As demand for services increases in the current economic downturn, The Center for Working Families, Inc. (TCWFI) is actively recruiting volunteers to expand its internal capacity and to ensure that all participants receive the comprehensive supports and services they need to move forward on a path to family economic success.
Many volunteers are undergraduate and graduate students at area colleges, such as Spelman, Clark Atlanta University and Morehouse who are earning college credits or gaining valuable work experience. Churches, civic groups and professional organizations have also provided critical support to the Center, recruiting volunteers from their membership.
TCWFI works with the volunteers to determine how they can best support the Center's mission, aligning the volunteer activities to their interests and expertise. Volunteers with professional expertise have provided programmatic support, sharing their skill sets and subject expertise with participants and staff while other volunteers have provided essential clerical support and event planning assistance (including pre-planning, logistics, set up, registration and class facilitation).
TCWFI is also recruiting volunteers from the NPU-V neighborhoods to serve as TCWFI Ambassadors. Ambassadors receive training in public speaking to prepare them to make presentations to residents about TCWFI programs and to serve as representatives in media interviews about the Center's work.
Volunteer orientations are held on the second Tuesday of each month (6:00 - 7:30 pm) at the TCWFI offices. If you and/or a group that you are a member of are interested in volunteering at TCWFI, contact the Center at: 404.230.7111.
