Cerrice Sanders, Early Learning Community Partnership Program Assistant for the Atlanta Civic Site, was chosen to be in the inaugural class of the Georgia Education Policy Fellowship Program (EPFP).
As a Fellow, Cerrice will spend nine months developing a broadened understanding of the policy process within the multifaceted context of education and related issues. She and the other participating Fellows will attend monthly colloquiums that will be led by education experts, covering a variety of subjects such as "Political and Demographic Landscape of Georgia: Strategic Leadership in a Dynamic Policy Environment," and "Why Public Education: How Does the U.S. Educational System Compare to that of Other Countries?" Fellows will also attend a national policy seminar in Washington, D.C and a national leadership forum in Phoenix, Arizona.
This honor will enable Cerrice to expand the Civic Site's body of knowledge around education policy issues in Georgia. The Atlanta Civic Site and all of its School Readiness partners will benefit from this enhanced expertise. And, as this inaugural class of 22 Fellows takes advantage of the Program and brings their expertise back to their organizations, the State of Georgia will see its education policy decision making capability improved and increased.
EPFP is a national program now being conducted in 16 states. It is a professional development program that provides potential leaders with the knowledge and networks to advance the core issues of education policy with the goal of "improv[ing] the chances of children and youth to succeed."
The Georgia EPFP is an initiative of the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education in collaboration with the Institution for Educational Leadership. It is being co-sponsored by Georgia State University's Andrew Young School of Policy Studies and The Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach at The University of Georgia.
